By Colleen Hoover

There are 3 books in this book series, and “Slammed” is the 1st book.

I encountered this in the “Best Sellers” section at the National Book Store located in Greenbelt, Manila on October 2015. So if you’re in Macau or Hong Kong, you’d best order it online. As shared by a friend and I’ll quote “this book will make you fall in love with poetry”.

Book Summary:

The story is mainly about Layken Cohen who is recovering from her dad’s recent passing and family’s decision to relocate. The first person she meets in her new neighborhood is no other but her neighbor, Will Cooper. Their instant connection go from an innocent grocery run to a grilled cheese date that turns into a disciplinary hazard. As Layken goes back to her last year in high school, she also meets Eddie, who is determined to be her best friend, along with Gavin her boyfriend. The pair plays a significant role in Layken’s new life, a life that is about to experience another stumbling occurrence that will leave this series one character less and have history repeat itself.

Here’s a quick view of the poetry you’d fall in love:

“Sometimes life gets in your way.
it gets all up in your damn way.
But it doesn’t get all up in your damn way
because it wants you to just give up and let it take control.
Life doesn’t get all up in your damn way because it just wants you to hand it all over and be carried along.

Life wants you to fight it
Learn how to make it your own.
it wants you to grab and axe and hack through the wood.
It wants you to get a sledgehammer and break through concrete.
It wants you to grab a torch and burn through the metal and steel until you can reach through and grab it.

Life wants you to grab all the organized, the alphabetized, the chronological, the sequenced. It wants you to mix it all together,
stir it up,
blend it.”

  1. I fell in love with spoken word poetry even more and was completely enamored by Colleen Hoover the moment I finished this novel. 😀 This is love.

      • I finished the Slammed series including Will’s POV. To be honest, I’ve read every single Colleen Hoover novel. I’d even read her grocery list if I could. Haha

        • Oh my! Now I’m psyched to be reading more of her books. Such a shame I can’t get them easily in Macau. I’ll assume you purchased your copies elsewhere?

          • I bought ebooks since it’s quite troublesome sending everything in Manila. 🙂 I adore Colleen Hoover’s piece, even the ones she co-wrote with Tarrin Fisher.
